Try out these tips to travel greener.
As concerns over the health of our environment grow, it’s important that we all make an effort to reduce our environmental impact. One way that we can be more environmentally-conscious is by changing our behaviors when we travel. Here are some of the things that we can do to travel greener this year.
- Limit How Much We Fly
Air travel is worse for the environment than any other form of travel. If you want to reduce the impact you have on the planet, then you should avoid flying whenever possible. If flying is the only viable option for you, then do your best to avoid taking multiple flights to reach your destination—direct flights are the better option.
- Walk Whenever Possible
Most Americans do not think twice about jumping into their cars, even when they are only going a short distance away. Rather than adding these unnecessary CO2 omissions to the atmosphere, you should try to walk whenever possible. Not only is walking better for the environment, but it is also good for your mental and physical health as well.
- Use Public Transportation
If you need to go somewhere out of walking distance, then consider taking public transportation rather than your car. Research by the University of Utah shows that public transportation produces fewer emissions than other forms of transport. Additionally, because many public transport systems are trying to make improvements to their green rating, public transportation is one of the most eco-friendly travel options available.
